The Slightly Light Night is a public art evening planned for the 14th of October in Birkenhead of 3 venues.

Venue One: Home Cafe at Woodside Ferry Terminal (so for those coming from Liverpool it is a quick Ferry across the Mersey - apparently the last one is about 8pm so it will be a return by train). At Home there will be an exhibition of work, a local band Orange Zebra and obviously coffee, tea and food for sale from the folks from Home.

Venue Two:The temporary gallery space in 26, Argyle Street, Birkenhead called The Six Rooms Gallery will be open from 5.30 until 8pm and will be showing the work of 12 Wirral based artists curated by Theresia Cadwallader.

Venue Three: The permanent gallery space housed in the Lauries Centre, on Claughton Road will be open from 7 until 10pm showing the current exhibition Zero Blank Eye Candy curated by Simon Mack and showcasing work from uk and international artists.

The evening event is a scaled down version of the Light Night and Long Night events that have been so successful in the last few years in the galleries and museums of Liverpool.

This collaboration to create an evening opening for the public from The Six Rooms Gallery and The Lauries Centre is the result of the greater communication between art venues and artists based in the Wirral. Eventually, there is the hope that the Slightly Light Night could develop to encompass more galleries and museums based in the Wirral if the event carries on in future years. There is the potential to have the Slightly Bright Night in spring.

The Six Rooms Gallery is a temporary exhibition space for the duration of the Independents festival. The exhibition in the gallery on the Slightly Light Night will be the second show for The Six Rooms and will show the work of 12 Wirral artists and craftspeople, namely David Brown, Susan Brown, Barry Canning Eaton, May Chong, Linda Evans, Bernard Howden, Toni Hughes, Barbara Meynell, Wendy Williams, Carolyn Shepherd, Rob Symington and Cathy Wu. There will be light refreshments available.

Zero Blank Eye Candy at The Lauries Centre is curated by Simon Mack and showcases the work of Carol Ramsey (UK) , St.+St. collective (Germany), Leon Jakeman (UK), Christina Mitrentse (Greece), Bob Briscoe (UK)+ Simon Mack (UK). There will be a public bar available at The Lauries Centre.

The Slightly Light Night will also offer an opportunity for other arts organisation and artists to promote their events on the Wirral, including The Wirral Open Studios (organised by Micheline Robinson for the 13th and 14th of November), The Oxton Art Fair (20th and 21st of November) and the artists of the 3rd exhibition at The Six Rooms Gallery as well as information about The Big Draw at the Williamson Art Gallery on the 24th of October organised by Marie Mairs of the Oxton Artists.
