What part recycling plays in my creative practice?

What part recycling plays in my creative practice? I started using recycled materials in 1989 in Edinburgh using wire mainly from television sets. When I started there was no kerbside collection and now there is and more opportunities to recycle at specialist sites. In recent years I have started to develop using items that are not as readily recycled locally as metal and have scaled up to making larger works. This has been influenced by tours of local recycling plants. My company is just me so I use social media to promote requests for items for my art and craftwork & for community projects such as WELLY ROAD GETS THE BOOT IN and ECO ART IN THE PARK. These requests are often shared by others including Wirral Environmental Network, DOES Liverpool, VEOLIA and campaigning groups such as the NEW BRIGHTENERS. In 1989 I won Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year for an outfit made from television wire - the head judge - Bruce Oldfield could not believe I could make the crown, corset...

Relax and Make Christmas Green with Wirral MakeFest

We are delighted to announce that we are working on a new event with the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum to create a chilled Christmas making and selling opportunity for the first Saturday in December. We have also confirmed the date for our second major Wirral MakeFest of the 1st of June 2024 and will be part of the Borough of Culture programme for Wirral. Wirral MakeFest 2024 will be returning to the Williamson and Birkenhead Central Library. For our new additional seasonal event to our MakeFest year, there will be a small fee for makers who are selling their wares of £15 per table/stand or reduced to £10 with a contribution of one of your products or coupons towards our unique raffle*. The monies raised will help both Wirral MakeFest and the Williamson make this and future events possible. If you wish to have a table just doing and sharing, or being part of the communal workshop area with the public, we would like to hear from you too and obviously there will be no fee for this....

SAVING RON'S PLACE Part 2

RON’S PLACE HAS BEEN SAVED FOR THE NATION!!! Wirral Arts & Culture CLT have purchased the house with much thanks to Tamsin Wimhurst from the Muller Wimhurst Trust who saw the potential of Ron’s place as an inspirational space. Thank you as well to each and every one of you who has supported us along this journey. This isn’t the end of the journey…. but the beginning. We’ll share more news soon. We are planning an exhibition in Future Yard at the end of the month and more activity when we take part in Wirral MakeFest on June the 3rd 2023 Donations are still needed.
