Exciting progress from de-junk, re-junk participants Part 2

Yesterday's instalment prompted more photos from the participating artists so I thought I would share them... Istra Toner's piece is called "Memories of love" and is made from a memory box I was given by a local friend, who knew I used to use similar boxes to display my jewellery. Istra is newcomer to my networking group "With These Hands" and divides her time between Wirral and her homeland of Croatia. "Here I have used a cupboard found in Alison’s garage. In it there are a number of discarded objects that must have had sentimental value to someone including a Champagne bottle stopper, carved dollies, snippets of handwritten messages, bottles of perfume...Some of these I painted silvery grey as faded memories of love." Exciting new year ahead for Williamson

We start our year with a solo exhibition that has been five years in the making but only metres away from the gallery. P ainter, Steve des Landes has lived close to the Williamson Art Gallery for several years and won the Williamson Open in 2015. Despite showing his work elsewhere in Liverpool and London, he has not had a solo show in Wirral and we are delighted to open our involvement with Wirral’s 2018 Year of Culture and Creativity with his solo exhibition Un- settled . What part recycling plays in my creative practice?

What part recycling plays in my creative practice? I started using recycled materials in 1989 in Edinburgh using wire mainly from television sets. When I started there was no kerbside collection and now there is and more opportunities to recycle at specialist sites. In recent years I have started to develop using items that are not as readily recycled locally as metal and have scaled up to making larger works. This has been influenced by tours of local recycling plants. My company is just me so I use social media to promote requests for items for my art and craftwork & for community projects such as WELLY ROAD GETS THE BOOT IN and ECO ART IN THE PARK. These requests are often shared by others including Wirral Environmental Network, DOES Liverpool, VEOLIA and campaigning groups such as the NEW BRIGHTENERS.
