Alison Bailey Smith has been working with recycled materials in her
craft practice for over 20 years and has recently been teaching rag
rugging with great success at the Williamson Art Gallery through Wirral
Lifelong Learning. Principal museums officer, Colin Simpson has asked
Alison to mount an exhibition of her students work and this will be on
show from mid November until the end of the year. Students were
encouraged to use old tee-shirts, even old socks to produce wonderful
prodded and hooked rugs.
She will also being conducting a recycled wire accessories workshop at the Williamson as part of their Christmas Gift making series on the 15th of November for £60 includes materials. The workshop will offer an opportunity to experiment with wire. Participants will learn basic jewellery methods and textile methods with recycled wire and how to combine recycled plastic, metal and fabric to great effect. No experience necessary. Booking essential through the gallery 0151 652 4177. Alison will be conducting a similar workshop at The Atkinson Gallery, Southport in February, details of costs and date to be confirmed.
